ADA (cont)

October 23, 2008

My primary purpose with attending the ADA was to look for new equipment and ideas for my new office.

After working in the same outdated practice (purchased in 1999) for 9 years I’ve FINALLY got a chance to design an office that is functional. I’m very excited about the design of this new office….it will dramatically improve the enviroment and the equipment of the practice. We are decked out with Midmark chairs and cabinetry, will have the new Helios lights in 2 operatories, loaded up with Kavo handpieces and will have room to move around our iTero digital impression system.

More importantly for this blog……I have created a conference room that will allow for me to be able to provide area for doing small group teaching out of my office. I have for years been asked if I provide more in depth training in my office……until now I didn’t have a good way to do that. Now our state of the art conference room and adjecent operatory will give me the ability to teach more in depth/detailed course to small groups. Also, will give me the room and ability to do some video taping and eventually/hopefully webcasting as well.

So I’m really excited about the educational oppertunities I’ll be able to provide soon…….Don’t worry it’s not going to be another LVI or Nash Institute ( I don’t have the energy or that grand of vision), but should be a nice place to occasionally teach small groups of friends.

More later as this continues to evolve.

American Dental Association Meeting ’08

I just returned from the ADA meeting in Texas. I was impressed with the attendance in an down economic enviroment.

I was down there to interact with my manufacture friends seeing what is new in the dental world. A couple of things stood out.

1. Pelton Crane has developed a new LED based operatory light. Really cool…lots of new and interesting features.

2. Vident’s new cordless EasyShade. Easier to use and very accurate.

3. Denmat’s purchase of GlamSmile. GlamSmile has a unique delivery system that may make delivery easier. I have not tried it yet….but sure looks interesting. Not clear how this will integrate with Lumineers

4. Kavo continues to perfect the electric handpiece….also their new diode laser has every cool feature on it that you could want.

5. Went by the Danville Engineering booth and was reintroduced to air abrasion with the new PrepStart system. They have integrated water into their system to reduce the “dust” associated with intraoral air abrasion. Interesting. I did alot of air abrasion preps in the 90’s…..this could make me think about returning to this concept.
