Colorado Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry

December 19, 2008

In September we had the first organizational meeting of the Colorado Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. This group is an affilate of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (www.aacd.com) . I look forward to having a local group of like minded dentists to share ideas.

This group also will help to provide a venue to bring to Colorado esthetically focused continuing education. I accepted the job as CE chairman for our new organization. Having served in the past and currently in a similar capacity within our parent organization I hope to use that experience to bring in some excellent speakers.

Our first program will be on Feb. 6th, 2009 at the CDA/MDDS building. We will have 2 great speakers at this program. First will be Dr. Hugh Flax from Atlanta. Hugh is currently the AACD vice-president and will assume the presidency in two years. Hugh also founded the Georgia AACD affilate, so he will be a great source of information for our membership as to how to fully utilize our new organization. Additionally, Hugh as a wealth of knowledge in the area of laser usage in cosmetic dentistry and will be doing a presentation on this subject as well. Our second speaker is local prosthodontist Dr. Aldo Leopardi. Aldo was one of the highest rated speakers at the last AACD national meeting! He’ll be presenting his anterior implant lecture, which is an excellent program for any cosmetic dentists to learn more.

Anyone interested can contact me directly at radzdds@aol.com .

I look forward to learning more locally and to the challenge of bringing to Colorado cosmetic dentists great speakers.

New Teaching Concepts with Heraeus

December 13, 2008

Last Monday I spent the day at the South Bend offices of Heraeus.

We discussed their ideas of improving the level of continuing education to several of us who travel extensively teaching.

The idea is to bring effective teaching ideas to dentists.

Heraeus is making efforts to create an esthetically focused line of materials that you may have seen marketed under the “Venus” brand.

Venus can refer to their porcelain and/or composite materials. Both materials have excellent physical properties and are highly esthetic. The teaching concept is to teach dentists great materials with predicatable techniques.

I envision this to be an excellent program to help dentists improve their final results in direct bonding, porcelain veneers, and posterior esthetics. I’m looking forward to working with Heraeus to help other dentists improve their cosmetic dentistry.
